Going downstream from Hire Base
Barnwell has a Post Office and Village Stores – accessible from the hire base distance of about 1 mile.
Oundle Town Centre has a variety of shops, including a butchers, grocers, chemist, post office, bakers, newsagent, Co-op supermarket and various craft shops and coffee shops.
Elton has a Village Shop (follow the path from the lock and turn right up the road - about 1/4 mile)
Warmington has a Village Stores, butcher and Post Office in Hautboy Lane close to the pub.
Wansford has various shops along the High Street
Alwalton has PO and village shop
Peterborough has a wide variety of High Street Shops and there is an Asda Stores near to the Embankment
Going Upstream from Hire Base
Thrapston has a variety of shops, a post office and a Co-op supermarket (over the bridge and left at the roundabout)
Woodford has a Village Shop (up the hill from the village green)
Wellingborough has a Tesco supermarket near the Embankment, opposite Whitworth’s Flour Mill
Northampton has a wide variety of shops and a Morrisons Supermarket near the river.

The Montagu Arms, Barnwell, PE8 5PH – 01832 273726. Open all day Saturday & Sunday. Lunchtimes and evenings Tuesday to Friday. Please note that no food is served on a Monday (except bank holidays). Serves good food and has a good selection of real ales. Children are welcome. Barnwell is accessible from the hire base and is about 1 mile away.

Oundle Cruising Club is located just after Barnwell Road bridge on the left hand side before the marina entrance. Mooring is available along the bank outside the club. To access Oundle Town Centre, you can use the OCC moorings and walk through Oundle Marina and into town. Please be aware there is a security gate into the marina which is shut at 5.30pm. There are also informal moorings near Oundle Town Bridge, just after Ashton Lock. A footpath will take you into Oundle Town Centre.
Ashton

Informal moorings for Ashton can be found up the old mill stream at Ashton Mill (upstream of the lock). The village is a short walk along the footpath, past the old mill and up the hill on the other side of the road.
